Not Your Momma’s Barn VEnue

I feel like we’re seeing less and less of the barn wedding vibes over the last several years, but Milestones Barn has accounted for the modern bride. By choosing details that represent your day, and a photographer who’s style emphasizes those details, there is a lot to be said about the versatility of the space. With simple walls, sleek black siding, and tasteful accents, it gives couples a relatively clean slate to work with while still offering bespoke details that make your venue unique – that’s why you’re booking them in the first place, am I right?!

I also love the price point – if you’ve been looking at modern barns in KC, you’ll know there are some that can really set your budget back. Milestones Barn (as of the writing of this blog) is circa that mid-range $6,000 mark, which I would say is quite agreeable for being able to fit 250+ guests. My recommendation as a past bride: write out your guest list BEFORE you start looking for a venue. A great hack to stay on track with wedding planning is making sure you’re not overcommitting to a huge event space if your guest count is a fraction of their max capacity. This is super useful if you’re teetering on that 100-150 ledge and are not sure if you’ll need to size up on your space. Ask to see floor plans of how they would be able to accommodate your guest count, and make sure it still leaves you with a dance floor if you plan to boogey down! Most venues should be keeping you below their true max capacity for safety and mobility purposes. Below is my personal numbers on what I see venues in KC holding. By moving down the list, you’re more likely to spend more on your venue, so if you can estimate your guest count early, you can make sure you don’t go over board on your venue size.

The Perfect Reception Space

I love a venue that has built in up-lighting! It’s one of those things couples typically wouldn’t think about as the lights go down, but definitely a game changer if their venue or DJ has a lighting package with their services. I highly recommend you ask about uplighting if it’s not something that’s included! It makes for fun low-light photos, and can make your dance party feel like it should be going all night long! Guests of all ages like to boogie down under the neon lights, but don’t just take my word for it! One of my favorite things to capture is the moments where grandma and grandpa take to the dance floor and show off their moves. It makes for incredibly fun memories!

Traditional barn weddings may be falling out of fashion, but an event at Milestones Barn is sure to remain timeless. It boasts the perfect blend of modern necessities and traditional roots. Half the time I’m culling a gallery from here, I forget it’s a barn venue! It has a great price tag for the amount of useable space. And because it’s so large, you don’t need to worry about a room flip in your schedule! (Which, if you haven’t been hearing this phrase as you’re planning – good! Room flips can be a pain!)
